Week 15/52 Writing Update: Fanfiction!

So, yeah, this week, the only writing I’ve done is fanfiction writing. Which, I guess, is better than nothing, right?

I saw once, that, not many people admit to writing fanfics. But then, the only fanfics you seem to here about is ones including real life people like Liam and Harry from One Direction being secretly in love with each other.

Obviously, there’s a lot more to it than that. There are fanfics for almost every single book, movie, tv show, comic and video-game ever created. Whether it’s a one-shot or multiple chapters.

And, for a lot of writers, those peices were some of the first things they ever got real feedback on from readers. Whether they were absolutely terrible, or absolutely brilliant. There are people willing to read it because they loved the book/movie/tvshow/comic/game just as much as you did.

And, I think that’s pretty awesome…

I also think it gives you a platform to develop your skills as a writer without having to put that much research in to it all. It also gives you a chance to better your character development skills too!

I’ve only properly written about 4000 words of an actual storyline, but its words I might not have wrote at all if I hadn’t started it!

I think it’s also just gonna be a fun little side project that I can enjoy when Diaries and Tales get a little bit too much for me!

Have any of you guys delved in to writing(or reading) fanfiction before?

I wrote quite a lot of it back in the day, and, I’m hoping to do a throwback on Wednesday on some of my favourite (and awful) fanfiction stories from back then!

Until then though guys,

Three Quotes, Three Days, One Challenge: Day Three

So, it’s the last day of the 3D,3Q challenge that I was nominated by Robin-LeeAnn to take part in, and, considering some of the events that happened over this last weekend, and a game I’m still currently hung over from. The following quote sort of stuck with me.

Whether you’ve played Far Cry 5 or not, this quote from the main antagonist really stuck with me.

When are we going to learn that we can’t fight fire with fire? That bullets and missiles won’t solve any thing? Weapons were made to destroy; not to create.

A bit depressing, but still!

The rules for this challenge are as follows:

  • Thank the person that nominated you!
  • Post a quote for three consecutive days (a quote a day)
  • Nominate three others to take part!

I nominate:

Anyone who wants to take part! This is an awesome challenge and I would love to see what each and every one of you came up with! If you do, please make sure to tag me so I can see them!

Until then though,

Just Keep Writing,

Jade

Three Quotes, Three Days, One Challenge: Day Two

A day late (oops), but here is my quote for day two of the 3Q,3D challenge, which I was challenged by Robin LeeAnn on Wednesday, and, today, I thought I would go with one of my favourite book quotes!

I don’t know what it is with this quote, but it always makes me a feel a little bit better whenever I read it!

The Rules

  • Thank the person that nominated you!
  • Post a quote for three consecutive days (a quote a day)
  • Nominate three others to take part!

For today, I’m going to nominate:

Julia Witmer

Cambria Covell

Caith Esra Ulvar

I don’t have any work or distractions tomorrow, so day 3 of the challenge should be posted on time!

Until then though,

Three Quotes, Three Days, One Challenge: Day One

So, I had something else planned for this Wednesday, but with not enough time to put things together, here I am with a challenge that Robin-Leanne nominated me for! I love stuff like these and I can’t thank her enough!

This is one of my favourite quotes ever! I stumbled across it one day whilst browsing the internet and I’ve featured it on this blog many-a-times so I just knew this had to be featured first!

  • The Rules
  • Thank the person that nominated you!
  • Post a quote for three consecutive days (a quote a day)
  • Nominate three others to take part!

For today, I’m going to nominate:

Week 14/52 Writing Update: Achievement Get: Procrastination

So. I’ll be honest. I haven’t really worked much on my camp nanowrimo project this week.

I’ve rewritten about 4k words and I’ve played Far Cry 5.

I been out exploring the fields of Montana! And taking down a doomsday cult and all the rest!

It’s not much of a surprise really. I knew it was going to happen and I’m kind of just accepting that.

For the week to come, I don’t know how the writing thing is gonna go. I’ve finished Far Cry – so I don’t really have all that good of an excuse.

I do have some extra hours at work though, and, as much as I think that I’ll be able to sit and get some words down whilst I’m there, my boss loves to give me the things to do that the people I’m covering never do. Because they lazy.

But, thats a rant for another day. At least I don’t get bored. I just die of dust inhalation instead.

If anything this week, I should find time to read! (I got like eight new books from the books fair, so I definitely need to start putting a dent in my TBR shelf).

This doesn’t include the ones I put aside to read for the 25in5 readathon that I just never started, and the two new books being delivered today! Although, one’s a game guide and the other is just novella size so that’s not too bad.

As long as I can get in to the groove of reading, I’ll be fine, but then, it means the groove of writing falls away….

Although, this week, I did finish beta-reading one of the manuscripts I have, and now, all I have to do is finish filling in the survey. And, I have the second part of another that I can finally get in to as well! So that will be fun!

I also have at least one other blog post planned for this week, and it will most likely be me rambling on about Far Cry 5, giving all the spoilers and figuring out if I can make my antagonist just as great as theirs are!

Anyhuw, I hope any of my fellow campers and non-campers have had a slightly better writing time than me!

Until next time,

Just Keep Writing,

Unboxing: The Fable & Black Lucky Dip Box

This last month or so, I decided to treat myself to a little etsy sprawl! I’ve also never received anything from the site before and thought it would be nice to document the experience a little!

So, one of the first things I decided to treat myself to – that wasn’t bookmarks – was the Fable & Black lucky dip box, and at £10 (plus an extra 15p for shipping because of the insta coupon I found online) I couldn’t say no! (Baring in mind, it’s a UK company, so International shipping would probably be a tad different)

I’ve also never had anything from the fable & black store before, so I never had to worry about getting any sort of doubles! But, the next time I order one (cause I definitely will), there’s actually a space to tell them what you already have so doubles never happen!

A big bonus about this box is that it’s also small enough to fit through your letter box!

The items I got were:

x3 William Shakespeare Quote Bookmarks

x1 ‘Night Court’ Badge

x1 ‘I LOVE YA’ Keyring

x1 ‘Fight Evil, Read Books’ Coaster

x1 ‘Potion Making’ Notebook

x1 ‘Beware For I Am Fearless And Therefore Powerful’ Print

x2 Fable & Black Mini Prints

Here are a few close-ups!

Everything included was great quality! The bookmarks and prints were on good quality paper/card and the coaster looks as if it could hold it’s own in a busy house-hold of mug users!

And the notebook has a surprisingly good number of pages too! It isn’t lined paper, but the sketcher in me (😂) could use it if I pleased, or I could just have some wonky lined writing!

The only problem (I’m being nitpicky now) that I had with the box – and it was more because I didn’t like the fandom that was included (maybe didn’t like is too strong a word??) was that I got a ACOTAR Night Court badge!

It is beautiful though, and, if I didn’t know the fandom already, I would just think that it was a really pretty badge!

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little review, and, if you enjoy bookish items, but can never decide which items you want, then this box is definitely for you!

Do you treat yourself to anything bookish? Or are you just a book buyer?

Until then though guys,

Just Keep Writing,

I’ve Always Liked Camping…

So, for my first ever Camp Nano experience, I’m going to be attempting to start and complete the second draft of my November Nano project – The Diary of a Child Zombie Killer.

Rewriting 50,000 words is gonna be a toughy, I know, but I managed the first draft in 19 days – so, I’m hoping that these thirty are gonna let me do both the rewriting and the research I need to make the whole thing that little bit more believable.

I literally did just shovel sand in to a bucket for my first draft, and literally word-vomited my way through nanowrimo.

And, I think thats the best way to get a first draft done.

I even changed perspectives half way through so I’m gonna have so much fun writing that first part! But, it made the words flow easier, and, if I’m honest, it’s definitely one of those novels that is gonna be far more character orientated than plot orientated.

The plot is quite simple really. Survive.

There’s no grand finale to find a cure or anything like that. I know twelve-year old kids can be capable of anything – look at Percy Jackson and Harry Potter – but, Melanie doesn’t have any magic or god-like abilities, and she’s one of those characters who is much-likely to run than she is fight.

Not because she’s selfish – just that she’s not stupid.

So, all-in-all, I have 2138 words rewritten so far, and I have a load of research to do – which I thought would be fun to share with you lot so look out for the first one later in the week!

What are you working on for Camp Nanowrimo?

Until then though,

Just Keep Writing,
