Day 12: The Christmas Eve Wrap-Up (12DaysofBlogmas)

It’s Christmas Eve, the day before the day we’ve all been waiting for, and, wow, has it been a crazy week or what!

So, my morning was spent helping out my local dogs trust, and then, I came home, got in to my pajamas (at like 10.40am) and watched ‘The Santa Clause’, one of those classic films you just can’t miss out on! It’s one of those that really warms your heart, and is definitely one of my favourites!

However, following that, instead of watching HP & The Chambers of Secrets like I wanted to, the brother had to be picked up from work; and it was the last time I could get out to the shop before they all closed! The worst thing was, that it meant I had to get out of my pajamas!

Anyway, at the shop, a last minute present was bought, a pack of batteries for brothers ”mouse trap” present was bought and some chocolate, because, why not! I also got some baking paper, which, after yesterdays fiasco with the poor ‘thing’ I tried to create, it’s most certainly needed!

Back home, (and back in my pajamas) the presents were wrapped and put under the tree, and the baking commenced! Using the big old cook book, I created something that resembles a chocolate yule log!

A lot of breakages happened, but, with enough cream, and chocolate icing – the bit where it sort of broke in to three pieces, was fixed – and it actually came out looking like a log fo a tree!! A pale one, but still a log! It might not look completely right, but everything tasted good on it’s own, so I’m sure, that when it’s cut in to tomorrow, it’ll taste amazing!

Here’s hoping anyway.

I may have put a little bit too much chocolate in to it…

It’s Christmas, you can never have enough chocolate, right?

But, anyhow, the presents are done, the food that needs to be defrosted is being defrosted, the cheesecake set beautifully! And, I spent the day in my pajamas watching movies!

Anyway, the last twelve days of this Blogmas have been crazy! I had most of it planned out, but, the last few days got rough and posts got rambly! I guess that’s just Christmas for you though, right?

I had more plans and more blog posts for this whole thing, but, nothing really went to plan, and I guess, if anything, there’s still next year, isn’t it!

If anything, its been fun! I’ve enjoyed making myself write a little everyday, if anything, it proved to myself that I could do it!

Although, my book has suffered these last few weeks! I’ve worked on it in some way a little everyday, and I’ve even wrote two short stories about it! One, I posted on here for Day 3 of Blogmas, when Ryan met Rudolph, and another – that’s still in my drafts – and concerns Url and his want to runaway to bard school, both of which were inspired by my 12 Days Of Promptmas prompts! Which I think have been the funnest to do! It’s made some of these blogmas posts so much easier to do!

It’s also let me get to know my characters even more than I thought I could, and I think, if anything, it’s kept my mind on them when the reality of Christmas is trying to take me away from it!

Today Promptmas (and the last one) is:

My characters would most probably resent the fact that they had to invite me in the first place! I’m not nice to any of them, and they’d probably try to poison me with wine or something like that!

But, say I did survive the whole initial thing. I would see Derrick, Tobin and Rhys (who are the least likely to poison me with turkey, thank god) cooking the food, Mel would probably be trying to help, but most likely, she’d just be sat there scoughing her face with chocolate!

As for presents, apart from a knife in the back (or the front, depending on the character), I might get some that don’t include trying to kill me!

Lauryn – A story she’s written

Aran – A drawing of some animal

Harry – The ‘dagger’. (I’m sorry Harry, it’s not real if that makes you feel better, it’s just a story, you’re not real either)

Albert – A book, probably a memoir cause he likes them

Mel – A fruit bar, because it’s the only thing she’ll give up

Jerry – A cloak, a real nice, fine one as well, because he likes them little luxuries

Rhys – He thinks himself a story-teller, so I guess, he’d really enjoy telling me a story. (Whether this story includes my death is another post for another day)

And, just for the sake of it, here are the eleven other Promptmas prompts!

To end this off, I hope your all ready for Christmas, and that the rest of the eve is spent drinking hot chocolate, eating food and watching movies! Or, if it’s nice and hot where you live, that you’re sitting by some pool with a beer or a coke!

I’m gonna end mine with the Anchorman! The Legend of Ron Burgandy!

Until next time,

Just keep writing,

Jade x

Day 11: Rambling Rambler (12DayOfBlogmas)

So, it’s the day before the day before, and you know when you have plans and they never really go to plan?

Yeah, thats what my days been a bit like again! But, at least, I’ve now got all my Christmas presents bought and wrapped, minus some I never ended up finding, so, it’s not been too bad of a day!

My shopping fails, today, included not finding said item for brothers girlfriend anywhere! Although, we did come across one shop that had it, but it was a ‘real’ one and not the sort of one she wanted!

And, trying to find Crooked Kingdom, now! That was quite entertaining! This poor guy was walking around WHSmith trying to find thisbook whilst trying to find another book for someone else, and, in the end, when we could hear him walking up and down the stairs all around us, he came back and told us they didn’t have it!

I’ll get it cheaper online than if I’d picked it up in a store, but I think, thay sometimes, it takes away from like, the authenticity of things, you know?

So, back home, I also attempted to Nigella Lawson it up with a Chocolate Yule Log, and it failed miserably!

Seperating eggs and whipping whites to soft peaks is no fun! Especially when it comes out of the oven a gooey sort of burnt and a film of crisp cakery laid over the top of it!

Safe to say, it went in the bin, and tomorrow, we’re gonna get out the big guns (by which I mean my mums oldest recipe book) and just listen to the professionals before Lawsons time.

However, I think all the wrapping I did today also fried my brain a little!!! It just never felt like it was going to end, and I’m already bad at it! Thank God its all done now! I don’t think there’s anyone else I have to buy for! (Until tomorrow comes and my list suddenly apears again)

So, tomorrow will be filled with chocolate yule logs, caramel cheesecake (which will determine how bad a day today was with how set it is).

Anyway, before I successfully drop my phone on my face, I’m gonna get to bed! Sorry for the rambly post! I had an awesome idea for what I was going to write today; but I guess theres always next year! Right!

I’d choose Rhys, the most righteous character from my nano project DOACZK, and Aran, the most righteous character from ‘Tales Of Monsters’ because I think their the only ones who would feel bothered about how all them poor kids felt when they woke up on Christmas to no presents!

Who would you choose!

Until tomorrows blogmas wrap-up! It’s good night from me!

Day 10: Christmas Shopping Fails (12DaysofBlogmas)

So, considering, this is a day late! Oops! I’ve decided to just give you a run-down of how our shopping trip failed!

So, first, the morning itself was fine! Work was done, even an interview was had, but then, then it started.

So, every friday, I get rent out for my parents. First stop, the atm near our house. No money. Second stop, atm a little less nearer our house. No money. Next stop, post office, queues, but money, so that ended that!

Also, inside the post office, they had the resident shop cat sitting on one of the shelves on a little blanket! His names Quaver and he’s adorable!

Next, my mum thought we should wait until my dad had his appointment in town to go, fair enough. Then, we get there, buy a couple of things, go to the bank for my grand-dad and then we’re meeting my dad again to hand over the money for him to take to my Gramps.

Next, he needs to go to another appointment, which he asks my mum to go with him. Fair enough, but, by now, its like two o clock and we have work in like three hours!

Then, where we parked our car, where we shouldn’t have really, we get boxed in and try to move some industrial bins to get out. It doesn’t work.

So, then, we’re stuck for a while. Go to Asda’s, buy some veg (and maybe GOT season 7) and then we’re back at the car, looking at it all confused. Then, a lovely lady shows up, all apologetic and we escape our box!

Then, considering its now almost three o clock (work starts at five), we have one actual present bought out of about tennish, we decide to go home.

Hopefully, today will be a better day. But now, said person who we are wanting to buy for, is coming with us! Yay!

Todays prompt is as follows!

Mine is to be decided still, but I would love to know about your guy’s!

Anyway, until later my friends!

Day 9: Christmas Shopping! (12DaysOfBlogmas)

So, tomorrow, I plan on finishing my Christmas Shopping!

Which, considering it’s not Christmas Eve is majorly amazing for me! I’ve actually been quite organised in some respect, somehow, and friends who live far away actually have their presents in time for Christmas this year!

Go me!

However, I am under no illusion that it will be quiet. We don’t live in a big town or anything like that, but we popped in to town yesterday just to go to the post office and it wasn’t too manic, but it was on that edge, you know!

Now, I have most of the presents all ready and wrapped, but tomorrow is the day when I go to look for those hard to find kind of presents.

And, before I go, I have to delve in to my brothers game collection and make a note of the ones he has and hope I don’t get one he’s already played! Failing that, I’ll buy his some christmas boxer shorts and be done with it 😂

I also have to find my brothers girlfriend her presents… I know what she wants and what I want to get her, but, whether it’s going to be there or not is a different story! I also have to find a few extra things for her, and, hopefully find a wallet for my dad and a nice jumper for my mum!

Honestly, I don’t have much to get, but I’m so terrible at making decisions that it’s probably going to take me from the time I finish work, to the time I go back to work in the evening to find everything!

I also want to pick up a few books for myself too, which may include Crooked Kingdom and Shadow and Bone, but, there’s also a set of Charles Dickens book in this one charity shop which I am hoping to God it’s still there!

I also have to pick up a few things for the animals! Can’t forget them now can we!

How is everyone else doing with their Christmas shopping?

And, in turn with the christmas shopping, here is todays #12DaysofPromptmas

This is a super easy one for me, because, by Santa standards, the only ones who would be on the nice list are Bryn, Lommie, Lou and unnamedlittlegirl(from doaczk)!

The others all kill people at one point or another, and by Santa standards, I think that gets you put on the naughty list!

Also, happy Winter Solstice every body!

I’ll see you tomorrow!

Day 8: When it Snowed Really Good That One Time (12DaysOfBlogmas)

So, Facebook likes to remind me every year of the awesome snow we had in years past around this time, and also, how it, always, dissipated right before Christmas!

I was also, obviously, going through my photography phase – with my small little digital camera – and taking photos of it everywhere! Also featured is my dog, who enjoyed it a lot more then, than I’m sure she ever would now!

And, it’s also a little mad how I can see Arans journey in my WIP ‘Tales of Monsters’ fit in to the setting perfectly! When, all this place really is, is a football field surrounded by some thick brush and some tree’s acting as a border to the farming fields around it.

I think nature can give you such inspiration anyway, but add the white and the whole landscape changes. I found so many little ‘caverns’ of sorts that I couldn’t ever find without the snow, and, it always made me think of fairies and little hobbits that could fit in quite easily without trying to duck and dive like I had to.

So, the rest of this post is just a load of photos from 2010 and 2013, when the snow came to Wales wicked and fast, and then left almost as soon as it had arrived!

To end of this post, today’s promptmas focuses on the beauty that is the office Christmas party!

I would pick Dan from Rilarth, and Ivon from Brydon. They never meet in Tales of Monster, they might never meet ever, but these two would be the most likely to crash an office Christmas party!

All the food would be eaten, and all the drinks drunk. Ivon would be the instigator, and drunk Daniel would be the one who carries it all on! There would also be a lot of womanising with these two hunks and a lot of hearts broken!

But, they are also the sort of people that would help you clean up afterwards!

Until tomorrow!

Day 7: My 12 Favourite Christmas Songs (12DaysOfBlogmas)

So, todays promptmas asks about which of your characters could sing, so, I thought I’d tell you my favourite Christmas songs!

  1. Wham – Last Christmas
  2. Tom Jones & Cerys Matthews – Baby, it’s cold outside (if this wasn’t here, I’d be a disgrace to Wales)
  3. Mariah Carey – Santa Claus Coming to Town
  4. Mean Girls – Jingle Bell Rock
  5. Brenda Lee – Rocking Around the Christmas Tree
  6. Sia – Santa’s Coming for us
  7. Shakin Stevens – Snow is fallin
  8. Dean Martin – Let it Dnow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow
  9. Michael Buble – It’s blBeginning to Look Alot Like Christmas
  10. Band Aid – Do they know it’s Christmas
  11. Gene Autry – Here Comes Santa Claus
  12. Judy Garland – Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

What are you favourite Christmas songs?

Today’s prompt is:

For me, using characters from my ‘Tales of Monsters WIP’

There’s really only one of my characters that have any love of singing, and thats Url, one of the house guards at Telfawds manor house. Every night, you can find him singing old songs about fairies and dragons, and, he had wanted to run away to bard school before becoming a part of the leige Lords guard. .
Lauryn, being a Princess and being taught to sing can hold a tune, but she doesn’t enjoy it.

Harry, he can sing, but he has one of those throaty voices that only some people enjoy!

Derrick tries enough that he’s actually okay.

Tobin don’t sing.

Aran sounds a bit like a strangled cat when he tries to sing…

Gren does too…

I can’t believe that we’re already on day seven! There’s just six more sleeps until the big day!

I hope everyone is doing well!

Days 6: 12 Things I Love About Christmas (12DaysOfBlogmas)

It’s just seven more sleeps until the big day, and, considering today’s ‘Promptmas’ post is about which of your characters most resemble the Grinch, I thought I’d show my ‘ungrinchiness’ and tell you 12 of the things I love about Christmas!

  1. Brussel Sprouts – They are my absolute favourite! I would eat them everyday if my mum let me (but she won’t). When I move out though, I will happily live of them forever!
  2. Christmas Lights – One of my favourite things to do at Christmas is to go and search for Christmas lights!
  3. Christmas Films – I would watch them all day if I could! I probably will when I finish work for the holidays!
  4. Pigs in Blankets – If you don’t know what these are, their sausages wrapped in bacon! I’m not the biggest pork fan, but, my mum makes her own, and their gorgeous!
  5. Decorating The Tree – I think this is one of them things that really puts everyone in the mood for Christmas! And, I can spend ages trying to rearrange the baubles! This year, we have quite a messy looking tree, but it’s messy enough that it kind of looks quite good! And it does have a sort of red and gold theme going on about it that really works!
  6. Time Off From Work – Thankfully, I’m lucky enough to be one of those people who get a long weekend this Christmas!
  7. Family Time – My family also get a long weekend, except my poor brother who works in retail! But, yes, Christmas, I think, really revolves around spending time with family, whether it’s watching Christmas films, TV specials, decorating or eating food!
  8. Christmas Markets – I love a good Christmas markets, and this year, I got to experience Manchester Christmas Markets, which was absolutely crazy (and packed)
  9. Giving Presents – Because it’s all about the receiving and not the giving!
  10. Christmas Songs – Their acceptable now! And, I love all the old ones, but some of these new ones out this year are just as good! I also love a good band-aid single, but I don’t think they did one this year!!!
  11. Christmas Jumpers – I love seeing all the different types of jumpers people have!
  12. Chocolate – My first love in this world (after writing), chocolate! It’s acceptable every day of the week to gauge yourself on chocolate if you want to, but it’s even more acceptable for people to give you chocolate during the Christmas period, so, win, win, right?

What do you love about Christmas?

And today’s promptmas is:

I think, out of all my characters, Harry would most resemble the Grinch!

He doesn’t see the point in any type of worship or tradition (except for the drink before a battle tradition), and doesn’t much believe in any of the old stories, so Christmas would be a total waste of time for him. He doesn’t need to have a day of the year where he gifts things to people or to worship someone whose dead!

Whose the Grinch in your story?

Day 5: Christmas Movie Traditions (12DaysOfBlogmas)

Yesterday, I watched my first proper Christmas film of the season! And, I know it’s a bit late, and I should be very ashamed of myself, but, that’s how the cookie crumbles But, now, to make up for it, I’ve now set myself a goal to watch at least one Christmas film a day – up until Christmas day, (which will be spent watching Mrs. Brown Boys, Doctor Who, Call the Midwife, and eating food!)

It was a film I actually hadn’t seen before, called ‘Northpole’ where an Elf named Clementine needs to bring the festive cheer and magic back to the world to save the Northpole! It was cute, and your typical, save the world and spread the love, and the magic Christmas film, and there’s nothing wrong with that!

The reason there are so many is because people love it! People love the cheesy Christmas films with the love stories, and the kids causing havoc to save the town, or save Santa or an elf, the whole parent’s don’t believe thing! It’s over-done, but we still watch it, because we love it.

A bit like books; it could have been done before, but you read it anyway because you love that sort of stuff!

And, today, I got to see one of my favourites! And that’s Jack Frost!

If you don’t somehow know what it’s about, (which you should, because it’s one of those), it’s about a dad, called Jack (Michael Keaton), who doesn’t keep his promises, and after deciding to change his ways, dies in a car accident, leaving his wife Gabby (Kelly Preston) and son Charlie (Joseph Cross) on their own for Christmas, and supposedly, all the Christmas’ to come!

A year later, with the help of some snow and a ‘magic’ harmonica, Jack comes back to life! But, there’s one problem!

He’s a snowman; and has only one final chance to put things right with his son before he is gone forever!

Queue all the crying, and blubbering, and all the festive magic and feelings, and you have yourself a heartwarming film!

It’s not one of the best, the special-effects aren’t amazing (it’s from 1998, it’s not gonna be), the acting isn’t the greatest, and I know it got a bit of a bad rep from some, but, it’s a film about a talking snowman! What did people expect? If anything, it has a story to tell, and I think, with most of these Christmas films, it’s the story it tells that’s the most important! That’s what brings all the holiday cheer, and festive spirit!

So, this film, it sort of goes off the precept that the dad isn’t spending enough time with his family – which is how most of these Christmas films starts! The parents are always too busy at work to be with their kids at Christmas, but, by the end of the film, they’ve changed their ways and decided what’s more important – family!

But, this film took that away, and in the first half hour or so, the dad who didn’t spend enough time with his family was dead. And, even though you watch it again, and again, you still cry, because it’s horrible! There’s not many Christmas films in which people die, especially not so early on (except for Santa that one time), and I think that gave it something different to all those other Christmas films out there!

And, some of the jokes in it, ones my naive little mind would never have seen or acknowledged are hilarious! If you don’t know what I’m on about, you just need to watch it again from a grown-up point of view, and you’ll see it!

All-in-all, it’s another one of those Christmas films that fall in par with all the others a tad, but it’s a bit different, and Michael Keaton is a great snowman! You need to see it for what it is, and that’s about looking at the things that are the most important in your life.

Although, I feel kind of bad for dad, more because, he couldn’t follow his dream of becoming a signed musician because of his family, but, I guess, that’s a rant for another day, and I don’t think that all the time, I think it was just a lot more prominent in the sulky ass kid that was Charlie at the beginning of the film. But still, you should watch it if you haven’t, watch it again if you have, and tell me what you think!

What’s your favourite Christmas film?

Todays Promptmas is:

From my #NaNoWriMo project DOCZK :

  • Mel loves ‘Elf’
  • Albert loves ‘The Snowman’
  • Rhys loves ‘Home Alone’

From my Tales of Monsters WIP:

  • Lauryn would love ‘The Polar Express’
  • Harry would love ‘The Grinch’
  • Tobin would love ‘Bad Santa’
  • Derrick would love ‘Love Actually’

What would your characters favourite Christmas films be?

Tell me all about them!

Day 4: Looking For Lights (12DaysOfBlogmas)

So, this post was inspired by a recent trip to search for Santa’s sleigh (which comes round our estate every year), which we never found! But, we did spot some beautiful displays and Christmas lights that took me back to a childhood memory we don’t do enough anymore! (Although, it might be more because I’m now twenty-three and such things shouldn’t excite me so much, but, I feel as I get older, I’m even more excited for it all than ever before!)

So, when I was younger, one of my favourite parts of Christmas was getting in to the car; and my parents driving me and my brother through the streets to look for Christmas lights! We could spend ages oohing and awwhing at the displays, and, there would always be one that you could see from afar! From the other side of the dip, the bottom of the hill, the top of the hill! And, we’d be drawn to it!

Now, the displays over here in my little town in Britain aren’t the greatest, their not extravagant in any way, but still, that little bit of twinkle made me feel all so very festive and happy inside, and you’d always have that one house that went all out! The one you’d see twinkling in the distance!

Nowadays though, I don’t see enough of them! I don’t know if it’s because I’ve got older and the lights got smaller, or if people just don’t bother lighting up the outsides of their houses anymore! Don’t get me wrong, there are some that go all out, I know of two right now which look amazing, plus my own house which my dad worked really hard on!

I guess, perhaps the people of the world (or my little town) don’t want to spend so much money lighting up the outside of their houses anymore (damn those smart meters!), which is sad because I think it’s a part of Christmas! It can be a way to show off your money, but it can also be a way to spread the joy, and make people just take a moment to stop and enjoy it!

And, most importantly, for my family, it allowed for a family outing of sorts – whether your get in the car or wrap-up warm with the dog on a leash – it gives you a reason to spend time together when you’re all so busy!

And isn’t that what Christmas is all about, spending time with your loved ones and making memories you’ll never forget?

It’s something I’m gonna do with my own kids when the time comes! And I just hope, we find at least one house that twinkles in the darkness from a far!

What are some of your favourite traditions at Christmas?

Todays #12DaysOfPromptmas is:

Me personally, I have a few drinkers in my club of characters, but Tobin, one of my knights and Skoldrick guard – despite his quiet and reserved nature – would get absolutely smashed off his face, and would be found lying down on the floor sleeping or passed out quite regularly!

And I have five others in my Skoldrick guard, but only one would help actually help him properly!

  • Josh and Tamas, the two babies of the group would act like children and vandalize his face with ink and paint.
  • Ivon, my bow-man, would sit and watch as the people in the room stumbled over him.
  • Harry, depending on his mood, might join him in his drunkedness.
  • Derrick, the only real grown-up would be the one to pick the tall man up, toss him over his back and settle him down in a chair or his bed! Derricks like the dad of my little Skoldrick family!

I’d love to hear which of your characters would end up drunk, and which would be the ones to help them home!

Until tomorrow!

Day 3: When a Kings Knight Met a Red Nosed Reindeer (12DaysOfBlogmas)

Today’s post was inspired by today’s Promptmas post! And, I attempted to do a flash fiction.

That day, Ryan had decided to go on a small hunting trip in Pembrey forest to pass the time a tad. Everyone else was sat around at the manor, writing letters to Kings, reading books, carving wooden rabbits, picking flowers or welding swords. All of which he had no interest in.

Not to mention, he liked to be alone sometimes. The silence of the forest made him feel better, made him feel sane when the rest of the world were losing their minds. Here, it wasn’t that bad, the people here weren’t as crazy as they were in the fields of Cryers – despite claims against the old Lord.

So far, he’d caught a couple rabbits, scared off a pheasant or two by accident, but he hadn’t spotted any boars or deer yet. Although, he wasn’t really sure he wanted too. He hadn’t brought Bezel with him this time, knowing the horse would most likely bolt at the sound of a rustle after what happened last week.

Really speaking, Ryan shouldn’t have been out there by himself, but, if he peered through the thicket long enough – and in just the right place – be could see the manor, which would be his excuse when he got back.

The trees around him were already thick with snow, the ground covered in undisturbed white that broke apart under his boots.

He hated that as much as Aran did, ruining the snow after all its hard work to fall.

The feeling of eyes on the back of his head made him stop. He could hear something as well, a rustle here, the crunch of snow there. He turned his head, his hand steady on his bow to pull it to the front of him, but then he saw it.

He had no idea what it was at first. He thought someone had been holding a torch from far away, but it wasn’t fire, it was like an orb. Like a ball of glowy red.

And it was attached to a stags nose.

Its antlers were small, it told him it was was a young thing, but it had fluffy chest hair, almost like a white beard.

It was tentatively walking towards him. Ryan kept his position, wondering whether the thing was going to attack, but it didn’t. It stopped about three feet away from him and strained it’s neck towards him, it’s red nose twitching.

Everything about it, except the fluffy neck line and the bulbous red, glowy thing on the end of it’s nose, told Ryan it was a stag, but the nose looked as if it was changing color every so often, that it would dull and then brighten up again as it twitched, getting closer and closer to him.

It was like something out of one of Telfawds books, like one of those mythical creatures that wasn’t really mythical. He considered it for a moment; the look of the thing, maybe it was an infection or something, a tumor perhaps, and then, the distance from here to the manor, which he realised he couldn’t see anymore, even if he did peer.

The stag touched his hand with it’s nose and he jerked it back out of habit, but it had felt like a dogs, rough and wet and he almost thought that it was going to crouch down and wag it’s tail like one, but it just tilted it’s head instead. Ryan swore it grinned at him, but then he shook his head and rubbed his eyes and face, wondering if the thing really was real.

If it hadn’t looked at him so placid like, he may have just shot it straight away, but, instead, a comical chase between the two ensued. Dashing here and there so that Ryan could get a bit of noose around it’s neck to guide it back to the manor, at least just for Telfawd to see it and tell him why it’s nose was red, bulbous and glowing. He didn’t know if they would believe his words. And, the more he looked at it, the more he saw something else in it.

And, it wasn’t a monster or anything, so Aran couldn’t say that he was the one that brought the end of the world. That would still be on him.

Anyhow, after another dash and a chase, Ryan stopped and put his hands on his hips, taking a deep breath and looking up towards the sky, he thought about how dark it had got, which meant he’d probably been chasing this deer around for far too long already. It also meant that he might get lost, and then, maybe eaten by a redcap or a shellycoat, both of which he hoped to avoid.

After a few more moments, Ryan sighed, turned and pulled his bow from his back.

The poor thing had no idea what was happening, and Ryan shot it in the head, the arrow sliced through the stag’s skull, almost splitting it in two!

Ryan chucked the dead red nosed stag over his shoulder and took it back to the Lord.

But, by the time, he got back, the red glow was gone and it was just a regular old stag again. No one believed him, but still, they sat around the table with their venison and cheered to his catch!

I don’t know why I always jump to Ryan for these short stories. I wonder sometimes if there’s a reason for that though, like something underlining that perhaps I don’t know about just yet.

I know he has this gentle side to him, but, he’s also willing to do what needs to be done, and, really, is like the anchor to sanity that I think Aran is gonna need as these books go on. He’s definitely one of those characters to watch, unless he suddenly shows up dead if he goes looking for some more red nosed stags with fluffy neck lines.

I know the grammar is a bit all over the place, but I guess that’s what you get when you do one of these flash fictions things, and it’s a good exercise to get to know your own characters a bit too much!

Anyway! Thank you for reading!

And, remember, just keep writing!
